Annual Dog Show, Photo Competition and Gala

Date: Saturday 1st September 2018

Hello All, our gala and dog show will be on the 1st of September this year, 2p.m. to 4p.m.
Back by popular demand is the dog show, this year extended to include a round for puppies (under 2) and veterans (over 7), as well as the usual rounds, cutest dog,most lookey likey! etc. 
Fingers crossed the weather will continue to be kind to us and we will be offering afternoon tea! 
If you would like to get involved organising this event, or volunteer on the day, please just message back 🤗
As part of the Gala our annual photo competition will have as it's theme this year "Seasons in the Park."
You must print your own photo, and bring it to the gala.
Your phtoto must be of the Park.
The entries will be judged on the day, and our prestigious cup will be awarded to the winner! 
Rules available on request but please note no children in your photos, thank you and sorry!

Working Day

Date: Saturday 18th November 2017

We are holding our monthly working day on Saturday 18th Nov at 10am

We will be clearing a third of the wetland area

Any help would be much appreciated, you will need to come in wellies and bring thick gardening gloves

Annual Photography Competition 2017

Date: Saturday 2nd September 2017

Photography is all about attention to detail, so this years photo competition theme is ... "Up Close."

We are looking for close up shots of the Park's flora and fauna, from all age groups and abilities.

Entries must be your original work and be presented for entry on our Gala Day, 2nd September.

Submission of any entries signifies acceptance of the following rules:


BINDING AGREEMENT: In order to enter the Contest, you must agree to the Rules. Therefore, please read these Rules prior to entry to ensure you understand and agree. You agree that submission of an entry in the Contest constitutes agreement to these Rules.

Competition Rules 

1. IMPORTANT: no images of people or children must appear in your entry. Entries submitted featuring people will not be accepted. 

2. No professional photographers 

3. The photograph must be 'as taken' - no editing or photoshop enhancements 

4. The photographs must feature Thornhill Rectory Park 

5. The judge’s decision is final. 

6. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS: As between FoRP and the Entrant, the Entrant retains ownership of all intellectual and industrial property rights (including moral rights). As a condition of entry, Entrant grants FoRP a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, transferable, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, distribute, publicly perform, create a derivative work from, and publicly display the Entry for any purpose, including display on the FoRP website, without any attribution or compensation to Entrant. Entries will not be returned. 

7. The photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the contest entrant. By entering the contest, entrant represents, acknowledges, and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph. 

Judging Criteria

The main criteria is the content of the picture; it must reflect the stated theme of the competition and be taken within the Park. 

We are not looking for technical perfection but the pictures must be in focus.


Annual Gala and Dog Show

This years dog show is on Saturday 2nd of Septermber 12 - 4pm with the usual fun rounds, dog with the cutest eyes, dog who looks most like its owner! 

Come and show off your pooch!

Also games and stalls for all ages, but the best bit of all - cake! 

Come and enjoy afternoon tea whilst watching the dog show...and oh yes, there's the welli wanging contest too!

Gala day and Fun Dog Show

Date: Saturday 17th September 2016

More details of the day, More to look forward to;

The dog show will be for fun as always with 6 classes such as the waggiest tail and the dog that looks most like its owner etc. the entry fee this year is 50p per class and this will include a free raffle ticket for a seperate canine themed raffle.

The old favorites will be there such as the cake stall, bottle stall, kids games, welly wanging, tombola etc and a super raffle with some fantastic prizes.

There will be a pop up afternoon tea emporium so go easy on the food before you attend the gala and have your fill at our cake stall and afternoon tea shop.

The Army and Police have said they will attend but have yet to confirm and there may be a possibility of a tug of war contest against the mighty Savile Arms team. Watch this space for further details..................


Working Day

Date: Saturday 16th July 2016

The Friends Group are holding their monthly working day on Saturday 16th July.

There is plenty to do as always and this time we are focussing on tidying the car park and gardening on the Hall lane border.

Please come along and help the Friends Group whose small volunteer group continue to work tirelessly to keep the park looking its best. No pressure, no hard and fast rules (except Health & Safety) just fun in the Park, come and help for as long as you can.

We will be meeting in the car park at 10:00 on Saturday morning, bring your own equipment if you want (NO power tools please).


Working day

Date: Saturday 18th June 2016

On Saturday 18th June we are holding another working day in the Park. We are tidying up and trimming back in all areas.

We may be in a position to paint the gates on the newly refurbished play area.

Plenty to do as always so please come along and support the Friends Group in their work to keep the Park looking smart and useable for all.


Meet in the top car park at 10:00am and stay as long as you like, there are no hard and fast rules (except health and Safety) it's just a chance to have a bit of fun for the benefit of everyone in Thornhill.

Bring your own hand tools but please, NO power tools.


See you all on Saturday, come early to avoid the crowds !


"Rectory Park Gone Wild" Evening Talk

Date: Wednesday 30th October 2013

The First evening talk of our new project will be given by Vicky Greenwood of Oggles Hedgehog Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre.

Vicky has already worked with us in the Park this year when she had 120 local school children mesmorised with some of her patients and tales of her rescues.

She will tell us about her work with Hedgehogs and how to look after them at this time of year especially with Bonfire Night approaching. Hopefully she will bring some hedgehogs along for us to look at.

The Talk will take place in the Thornhill Parish Church at 7:30pm and as with all our events it will be open to all and free to enter.

Refreshments will be available after the question and answer session at the end of the Talk.

Please come along and support the Friends Group in their latest project.


"Rectory Park Gone Wild" The inside story

Date: Tuesday 24th September 2013

Following hot on the heels of Saturdays launch event we are holding an evening meeting to explain all about "Rectory Park Gone Wild".

Come along and hear all about the events to be held over the next eighteen months, learn all about the aims of the project, find out what will be going on and where.

If you are interested in the "nature" in the park and want to know more this is where you can find out. There will be opportunities to help us with the events or to come and learn new skills


The evening is open to all and free to enter


It will be held in the Thornhill Parish Church at 7:30pm


We hope to see you there.
